Small castles of the 19th century

In the second half of the XIXth century, about twenty «small castles» appear.
Built from old manor houses or farm houses, or built on newly acquired land, these homes are the pride of their owners.

Initially a stronghold of the Orleans notarial aristocracy, the region, with the arrival of the railway and the improvement of the roads, saw the establishment of the business bourgeoisie and the Parisian industrialists eager to receive and share the pleasure of hunting with their guests. These houses are equipped with all the modern comforts of the time, running water, central lighting with acetylene, heating with heat recovery, tennis, stables, etc

The «bricks and stones» is the architectural style that most attracts the new châtelains but landscaping more picturesque are numerous castles: English cottage, Swiss chalet, Norman residence or castellization.

Nestled in the heart of the Solognote forest dotted with ponds, these properties still today, for the most part, their function as a secondary residence dedicated to hunting.
