A long time ago, and ever since their creation, the covered market and its
square have been the city commercial center. For ages the market has taken place
every thursday morning on that spot.
This grain market was erected in
1869 thanks to the generosity of a town councilor, Camille Boch, who gave it to
the city. It cames in replacement of a former building in Saint-Michel area.
That new hall was settled on a ground the town council had bought in 1867. Its
plan and erection work were those of Camille Berthier, an engineer also owner of
a tile and brick factory of the city.
The present laying out of the
surrounding space which highlights it was settled in 2009.
